I'll never understand why it was necessary to kill off the character of Sybil. The writers could have had her, Branson and the baby be forced to leave Great Britain in order to save his a$$. They could have had them set sail for a new life in America, possibly staying with Martha Levinson for a time. It would have fit in with Sybyl's modern independent spirit and stay true to the character. Imagine the heartfelt goodbye scenes with her family. Of course, they would still receive letters from her, and we could imagine her life continuing to unfold in a new country. When Martha returns in the Christmas special, she could talk about what they are doing and possibly bring word of another baby on the way. It would have been so much more satisfying than Sybil's melodramatic death, and it would leave the door open for her possible return. Now on the other hand, the writers had no choice with Matthew without recasting the part. Sadly, he had to die.

I wonder if Julian will ever bring back Patrick Crawley... for good. Patrick allegedly survied the Titanic and was recovering from amnesia, but then he was just dropped from the story. I don't know how Mary can live, with this guy going around claiming to be Patrick Crawley, especially after Matthew has died. Patrick could put her son's title and position at risk, because Patrick would be the legitimate heir. The Dowager would certainly declare war with that situation.

Early in [[series 1]] Lady Sybil formed a strong relationship with the family chauffeur, [[Tom Branson]], who was also very political. He subsequently fell in love with her. For the majority of [[series 2]] she was undecided whether she loved him or not. Once the war was over, Lady Sybil finally let her heart have a say.
