General Robertson
General Robertson: "For what?"
Robert: "To go to France...with the regiment."
General Robertson: "Why would you do that?"
Robert: "Because I'm their Colonel, of course. Well, there must be some use for me over there."
General Robertson: "My dear fellow, we're not as heartless as that. The position's only an honorary one. Nobody expects you to go to war."
Episode 2.01

General Robertson is the General for the North Riding Volunteers who recruits Lord Grantham. He is probably aristocratic. Robert believes he is back in the army properly, only to find out he is badly mistaken as the position turned out to be entirely honorary.

Personality[]

Robertson is jovial and absent-minded. He doesn't notice Lord Grantham's discomfort at the news of his position being honorary.

  •  General Robertson was portrayed by Jeremy Clyde.  Mr. Clyde is the great-great-great-grandson of Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, and is a cousin of the current Duke of Wellington
