The Entrance or Outer Hall is a room of Downton Abbey, directly behind the front door, and the entrance to the house. With sandstone walls and a vaulted ceiling, it continues the gothic air of the exterior of the house. Doors lead off into the Small Library and the Great Hall, but there is no way into the Dining Room from this room. A marble bust lies next to an out-of-service fireplace; it is here that the telephone sits, as installed in Episode 1.07 by Mr. Bromidge. Dramas conducted in this hall include the fight to have William Mason transferred to Downton, Lady Sybil's decision to become a nurse, and many fateful entrances and exits.
