I would certainly like to know what happened during that whole year gap between going missing and then dying. Besides, they said he got into a fight with the pre-Nazis the first night he was in Munich, and if he died as a result of that fight he would've died in 1922, not 23.
That's exactly what I thought watching Episode 5.06. for the first time a few weeks ago. Sadly, there are a few inconsistencies in the plot considering Gregson's disappearance and death.
If the night of the 8th/9th November is indeed his day of arrivial in Munich what took him so long to get there? If he'd arrived before that date, why was no detective able to find him? You'll need some food, a place to stay at least.
This man was an editor, he did writing for his living. Why couldn't he apparently find the time to write a letter for months? Dead men cannot write letters, of course.
I know, I won't ever get an answer to these questions but still they gnaw at me.
I came to the conclusion that briefly mentioning the Bierkeller Putsch was the writer's way to put his death into the wider context of history, trying to strengthen the fact that he was a courageous and honerable man. Still, they could've shown that without mentioning the Bierkeller Putsch; the SA was formed in 1920.
