    Beyond Downton Abbey

Inspired by Seasons 1 and 2, we published Beyond Downton Abbey — a guidebook to great houses. Season 3 was enough to inspire us to write Beyond Downton Abbey, Volume 2.  All told, we've written about dozens of great houses and the stories of those who lived and worked in them. We've had a lot of fun writing and sharing with fellow Downton fans.

American audiences, as you watch Season 3, we invite you to read the books, available in eBook and paperback, from Amazon.com. For fans in the UK, who are suffering from "Downton withdrawal" at the moment, the books are a great antidote—available on Amazon.co.uk

Thanks. Happy watching and reading in 2013!

    It's Time To Play

    October 30, 2012 by Xean

Wikia is rolling out a fun new initiative for the holiday season called “Time to Play” where we ask our wikis what page they’re most proud of. We want to know which page you would want to have represent .

There will be an official blog going out on Nov. 1 but we wanted to reach out to you early and see if you were interested in participating now.

If you wanted to participate, a “Time to Play” badge would go up on the right rail of the mainpage that links users to the page that you choose, while the footer will live on that same page that links to hub pages eg. http://www.wikia.com/Entertainment for Time to Play goodies. You can see how the badge looks by clicking here and how the footer will appear by clicking here.

    We will feature on http:/…

Hello fans of Downton: You are cordially invited to join me in England next summer for my course "The Road to Downton Abbey." We will read country house novels (including _Pride and Prejudice_, which celebrates its bicentennial), memoirs by servants "below stairs"--and visit scads of country estates, including Austen's brother's Chawton and Highclere Castle. Sybil's Pregnant!

    September 16, 2012 by PrincessDaydream77

I'm so excited that Sybil's pregnant! It's really so exciting! I'm so happy for her and Branson. I wonder if we'll see the baby, but seeing as Sybil and Branson are back this series, we almost definately will, since she'll probably give birth at Downton. Cora wants to see the baby, but Robert wasn't convinced. I hope he'll come round while Sybil's there.

I still sort of wonder why Sybil didn't want Mary and Edith to know to be honest. It's not as if she doesn't trust them, she trusted them not to tell Robert and Cora about her and Branson. Still, we'll probably find out in this series.

I'd also be really interested to find out what gender you think the baby will be and any potential names. Comment and let me know!

Only a couple of hours to go…

    Admin request

    September 14, 2012 by CestWhat

There isn't any other admins on this Wiki and User:Fandyllic has suggested I do it. Just wanting some feedback. I will try to be reasonable. I understand I'm neither the author of this Wiki nor am I the creator of this show. I have to understand that others' have differing points of views and not always differ to myself as the sole authority. I'd just like to have a wiki that's fun to contribute to and informative to either a fresh fan of DA or one who is obsessed with every detail. CestWhat (talk) 02:33, September 14, 2012 (UTC)

    Branson as regular

    September 7, 2012 by Kaffe4200

As seen on this promo-pic for Season 3, Branson is standing along with all the other main characters. This might mean that he is now billed as a series regular.

Also, look at how Matthew and Isobel is no more on the left, with all the servants; now we have Sybil there.

And about this 'beloved character' that will die in Season 3. My guess is Patmore, Molesly, Hughes, Violet or Isobel. Patmore, Hughes, Violet and Isobel is all loved by fans, and they are all old. Molesly has his lung issues, and he is also a loved character.

It seems in other shows and novels people get confused with who can inherit, in Discworld Lady Ramkin seems to be the heir to the Ramkin estate despite the fact that are probably male heirs. In the British show Monarch of the Glen the cousin became the heir for no good reason, the real heir was still alive.

If you are a fan of Brendan Coyle who plays John Bates, check him out in "Lark Rise To Candleford". It's not that great of a show, but not bad. Think of it as Britain's version of "Little House on the Prarie".

    Servant's Ball

    February 25, 2012 by DowntonDuckie

Does it seem odd to anyone else that Lord Grantham has to explain the Servant's Ball to Matthew during the Christmas special? At this point Matthew has been Heir Presumptive for 8 years... It bothers me that it seems this is the first time he has attended the ball.

    Ages?

    February 1, 2012 by WoundedWolfgirl

I'm confused about Mary, Edith and Sybil's ages. Their pages say they were born in 1890, 1894 and 1897, respectively, but I don't think that's right. I was reading the official companion book to Downton Abbey the other day, and it said that Sybil was 17 when the show began in 1912, meaning she would have been born in 1895. Furthermore, Julian Fellowes wrote that Mary was inspired by one of his ancestors, a grandmother or great-grandmother or something, who was born in 1880, making her "more than 10 years older than Mary" (my paraphrase). Then, in 1x07 (which is set in 1914), Rosamund says that Mary has had four Seasons. I know basically nothing about Seasons or debuts or anything like that, but isn't a young aristocratic lady presented to …

As the Dowager Countess knows the difference between "The Game" and "Charades" is that the Game involves guessing the title of a book, play or song (or nowadays a television programme or film) without speaking. Charades is performing a particular book, play, or song using costumes. No guessing was originally included.

    So now you know...

    Things that bother me...

    November 14, 2011 by Jimindc

First, let me say that I'm a huge fan of the series and think it is extremely well crafted and has excellent character development. However, with that being said, I have a bit of nit-picking to do.

    1) The Turkish Scandal: When Lord Grantham visits Bates in the pub where he's working and Bates says he quit to prevent a scandal from engulfing their family, Sir Robert asks "What sort of scandal?" and Bates replies "Nothing you need to worry about" and that sort of ends it. If I were Lord Grantham and a scandal what threatening to engulf my family, I'd certainly raise holy hell until I found out what it was and could put a stop to it or verify that it was true. Does anyone else find it strange that Lord Grantham seems to take such a laissez…

If you love Downton Abbey and Wikia, then you're in luck because the Downton Abbey Wiki is looking for an admin! Currently we don't have an active admin, and since this is such an active wiki (and such a popular show) it would be great to get someone who wants to be admin!

So here are the rules: you can nominate yourself as admin, OR nominate someone you know on the wiki who you'd think would make a great admin. Being an admin isn't difficult at all--you just get to have the final say in terms of decision on the wiki, like layout and adding new templates, etc!

Enjoy, and feel free to nominate yourself- don't be shy!

    Anachronisms

    November 9, 2011 by Longtimeago
